The Future of Space Exploration
The beginning of the new era of space exploration is already dated. Next May 27th, NASA and SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 rocket, with a Crew Dragon capsule and two astronauts towards the International Space Station (ISS). This has been announced by Jim Bridenstine, NASA Administrator. It will be a historic moment for many reasons. To begin with, it will be the first time since 2011 that NASA has organized a human-crewed mission from U.S. territory; However, the organization has not stopped sending astronauts to the ISS, it has had no choice but to rely on third parties like Russia and its Soyuz. It was in 2011 that the US ended its space shuttle program, opening the door to a new era of collaboration with the private sector. SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, is the most advanced, especially in terms of reusing rockets and developing capsules capable of carrying humans.
SpaceX Will Transport Astronauts
After many years of work, we will see the result at the end of next May, when the Demo-2 mission starts. The Americans Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will be the ones to release the Crew Dragon capsule, a version of the Dragon that SpaceX has already used to transport materials to the ISS. The tests have been favorable, and the launch has been approved. Therefore, for SpaceX, this mission will represent the first transport of people into space; the first of many hopes Elon Musk. The multi-millionaires goal is to transport tourists and astronauts to Mars regularly with his Starship. Therefore, the importance of this mission as the first step into a new era is undeniable. For NASA, it will be the moment of truth; the government organization has been tasked by the Trump administration to return to the Moon as soon as possible, and it will not be able to do that on its own after years of a limited budget. This mission must demonstrate that it can rely on the private sector to return to the heights of so many decades ago.
